While skipping does bring back distant memories of being a little kid in primary school skipping in the playground, it really is a great full body cardio workout even for adults, both male and female. Skipping holds soooo many great benefits that definitely shouldn’t be overlooked. Here are some reasons to add skipping to your workouts now…
You’ll be a fat burning machine
Yep, skipping burns waaayy more calories in a shorter amount of time than running on the treadmill, cycling on a bike or even on the cross trainer at gym (One hour of rope skipping will burn up to 1,300 calories)! It really gets your heart rate up and uses many different muscle groups at once too…I’ve definitely overlooked skipping in the past, but now I love it. Short 30sec to 1 min bursts in between sets is a great fat burning technique that will have you super sweaty in no time.
Skipping ropes aren’t expensive by any means and you can take a skipping rope anywhere and it takes up no room. As far as buying gym equipment, skipping ropes are probably one of the cheapest and is one of the most effective workouts you can do!
Skipping really does test your cardiovascular fitness and is a full body workout. It uses your abs to stabilise your body, legs for jumping and arms for turning the rope. The great thing about skipping is that is suits all fitness levels too, and you can start at your own pace and build up pace and endurance over time.
Works Different Muscle Groups
You’d be very surprised just how sore you can get after skipping! That is, if you haven’t skipped in a long time or ever before. For me, my lower abs and calf muscles were so sore! I believe it really does work and target muscle groups you may not have used in awhile, which is a great thing!
Studies have found skipping improves not only improves co-ordination but flexibility, stamina and agility!
