I’m gonna be straight up here and say, Melbs definitely know how to do bars rooftop or not – that seriously rock! Every time I travel down to Melbourne I discover different bars that are each unique in there own way. Here are some of my picks…
Where: 21 Croft Alley, Melbourne VIC 3000
Hidden down a dark alleyway in the middle of Chinatown doesn’t sound too safe does it? But really, despite it being located in the middle of busy Chinatown down one of the alleys is what makes it so unique but also finding it is half the fun!
Croft Institute is an ultra cool (or kooky) bar with a mental institution/science lab type theme goin’ on and my god, it’s epic! If it wasn’t from a trusty recommendation of a friend, I would not have found or even knew Croft existed. This place should be top of your Melbourne bar experience STAT! They serve up drinks with syringes in them..what?!!
My picks: One of their syringe drinks!
Where: 59 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000
Madame Brussels is the perfect place to kick back on a lazy Sunday arvo, or heck, even a Saturday night..or any night really! It’s certainly a popular choice amongst local Melbourner’s which only means one thing…they are really good! Head here with a small bunch of people and enjoy any of the array of jugs they have on offer.
My picks: Milkman’s Maid or Buttered Rum *they change their menu seasonally though
Where: 264 Swanston St, Melbourne VIC 3000
For those who love trendy and hip bars, Goldilocks will be your cuppa tea. Sit by the forest and vine themed bar and watch as the sun sets over the CBD and transforms into bright lights. Goldilocks pride themselves on their homemade freshly brewed ginger beers, brewed either hot or cold.
My picks: One of their signature mulled ciders!
Where: 103 Lonsdale St, Melbourne VIC 3000
Fancy, extravagant and luxurious tick all the boxes of the Bomba Bar, but don’t let that stop you from visiting. Although slightly more expensive than some of the other rooftop terraces, Bomba staff know their stuff when it comes to cocktails and flavours and while you can opt to sit inside, I definitely recommend the outside part that offers great city views of the city.
My picks: Espresso Martini or White Russian
Where: 193 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000
Located in the heart of the CBD, The Carlton is a combination of funky and quirky with a cute little tropical bar garden outside. The outside is decked out like a tropical forest with palms and statue animals – the feel of an island escape while the inside has velvet seating, dim lighting and ultra old school decor (that is cool though). It’s the perfect spot to kick back in the afternoon any day of the week or for after work drinks. You don’t even have to drink here, they have a food menu that i’ve heard is great!
My picks: Any of their old school cocktail selections
