Plaka Hotel, Athens: Review

I still struggle to gasp the fact that Plaka Hotel features as only a mere 3 star…maybe I’m just easy to please, or perhaps it’s modesty on their behalf, but whatever it may be, it leaves me reeling as to how different a 3 to 5 star hotel really is?!

Hotel

Plaka hotel is located in old Plaka area and is in a central spot, being only a short walk to many restaurants, department stores and the flea markets. It’s also quite handy there being a convenience store right beside the hotel also.

The hotel has a restaurant inside (on the level 3) and a rooftop bar to enjoy snacks and drinks. During the day, the restaurant dining area inside have complimentary tea between 12pm – 5pm, and also biscuits and water available all day long. This is also where buffet breakfast is served each morning, and is included in the price rates of the room. The buffet includes a wide array of freshly cooked and prepared food with Greek cuisine in one corner as well an American breakfast. The breakfast is open from 7 till 10am.

The rooftop garden located on the very top floor and roof of Plaka, offers spectacular views of the Acropolis as well as the city of Athens. Up here you can enjoy a light snack and a range of alcoholic beverages while you sit back and enjoy the 360 degree views! The rooftop bar is only open to guests from May through till October though!

Rooms

Plaka have 67 stylishly furnished rooms with the choice between single, twin and triple share. The rooms including the bathroom are all elegantly styled, with wooden floor boards, pristine white walls and furniture and room décor to match. In regards to room space and size, there was certainly enough to move around and store luggage, and like most European accommodation, it is not the biggest of sizes but is spacious enough. Rooms are very clean and housekeeping is done daily to ensure this.

Other hotels and room facilities

– All rooms include a mini fridge, hairdryer, digital safe box, TV and air conditioning plus generous bathroom amenities.

– There is free Wi-Fi all throughout the restaurants and lobby/reception area, however a little less strong in rooms.

– Plaka supply a computer and printer for guests to freely use at their leisure, which makes it great to print off any flight/tour/hotel bookings you may need for the following days ahead.
